Blood "N" Bubbles

The History of Diving In the Movies.

The makers of this little known movie made the fatal mistake of releasing it the same year that Jaws came out. 1975 was the year of the shark for Stephen Spielberg but not for Cornel Wilde, the director, writer, star for this Blood 'n' Bubble flick. Also starring Yaphet Kotto, Cliff Osmond, David Canary and David Gillian, the movie tells the story of a fishing boat captain and his crew look for treasure [pictured above] in shark infested waters. A group of convicts also want in on their share of loot and while the fish are biting. The advertising tag for the movie? " The Treasure is there for anyone who wants it!The sharks are waiting for anyone who tries it!" Name the Movie!

Canadian Cornel Wilde wrote, directed and starred SHARK'S TREASURE released in 1975 just after to the release of Jaws. Cashing in on the popularity of the public's loathing of the shark, much of the screen time is spent underwater. Award winning u/w photographer Al Giddings ( Jaws, Abyss, DeepStar Six) handled the subsurface shots with the help of Canadian film makers John Stoneman and the late Jack McKenney. They did much of their work in and around the island of Bonaire, hence the great visibility in the subsurface sequences. The story itself is rather weak but the scuba scenes are worth the rental price of this film. There are a number of shark, eels and manta ray scenesa shark killing sequence, while acceptable in '75, goes against the grain now as the world realises that sharks could soon be endangered critters.

Released by United Artists in 1975. The colour movie runs 95 minutes in length. The advertising tag for the movie? "The treasure is there for anyone who wants it!The sharks are waiting for anyone who tries it!"
