Eight million dollars doesn't buy very much these days! Pictured above is the floating set used in a 1995 Blood 'N' Bubbles big budget feature. The floating city was built in Hawaii and it used up every last bit of available steel in the islands! Once in place the floating atoll was buffeted by winds and current. The cast suffered from sea sickness, jellyfish hits and in the case of the star's diving double, a near embolism. For a movie set on the water there was surprisingly very little underwater action. Can you name it?

Waterworld. Made in 1995, by Universal Studios, Waterworld was directed by Kevin Reynolds and starred Kevin Costner, Dennis Hopper, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Tina Majorina. The movie is often referred to in the industry as Kevin's Gate and Fishtar (allud ing to two legendary Hollywood bombs), and is living proof that even with $250 million, making movies underwater doesn't always work well. Costner plays The Mariner in a post apocalyptic world covered in water. The Mariner arrives at a floating city where he is imprisoned for being a fishman mutant. When war breaks out he escapes with a little girl who has a map to dry land tattooed on her back. The bad guys want the girl and a giant water chase begins! There is some diving, but, don't look for any scuba gear on Costnerhis gills work just fine. Best underwater scene shows Costner diving on a long sunken city looking for parts for his boat.Rating 2 1/2 bubbles
