Logy Bay By Doug Pemberton
Location: Logy Bay Marine Station, a few miles north of St. John's, Newfoundland.
Description: The old boat ramp on the north side of the marine station allows entry to a small, narrow cove which leads to the clear waters of Logy Bay. Parking can be found at the top of the ramp.

Marine life: Sculpins, lumpfish, lobster, colourful anemones and soft coral.
The small cove beneath the boat launching ramp is shallow, only about four metres but we spotted lobsters and lumpfish there. Outside the small cove the rock-strewn, sandy bottom is dotted with colonies of pink soft coral and northern red anemones. Rocky walls are covered in patches of encrusting sponge.

Hazards: This dive is weather dependent. While it is an excellent and easy dive on a calm day, the area is exposed and diving should not be attempted when there are high winds or surf. Monitor weather forecasts for safety.
Services: Logy Bay is the site of the marine science research laboratory run by Memorial University. Guided tours are conducted through the facilities several times a day. They familiarize visitors with the research labs and educational displays of local marine life. Detailed information about this and other shore dive sites around the area and air fills are available at dive shops in St. John's. The adjacent area is very scenic and makes a good place for a picnic.
