Canadian astronaut finds NEEMO
Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen has just begun his seven day, sub aquatic adventure at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The 38 year old from London, Ontario will be leading a crew to explore the ocean floor as part of a simulation to help prepare for future space missions.
NEEMO (NASA’s Extreme Environment Mission Operations) mission 19, will see a four man team spend seven days at a depth of around 60 feet. The crew will sleep, eat and work, in and around the Aquarius habitat, off the coast of Key Largo, Florida.
The aim of the mission is to test tools and techniques for conducting space walks in “low gravity” conditions, and to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of short term training times, compared to more traditional, and longer training programs.
