Underwater with Alien Resurrection

Today came the sad news that Swiss surrealist artist HR Giger passed away at the age of 74.  Best known for his work designing the movie Alien, his images and artwork portrayed a nightmarish vision that forever changed the way Hollywood movies were designed.

So what does this have to do with diving you ask?! We at the DIVER office are huge fans of HR Giger and the Alien movies, one of the most memorable scenes for us (even though it’s one of the weaker movies), was the underwater attack from 1997’s Alien Resurrection. In the videos below you’ll see how it all came together with Peter Ramano, Hollywood’s go to guy for underwater cinematography, giving some fascinating insights into the three week production schedule and the challenges the underwater crew faced.
